Diabetes Management

We offer comprehensive diabetes management and testing services

Diabetes is a common chronic disease where a person’s pancreas stops creating insulin, a hormone that enables our body to process our food into energy. There are multiple types of diabetes and each comes with their own unique care plans.

At NJ Primary Care, we offer diabetes management services, care, and testing to patients in the Jersey City area.

Our services will help you get in control of your health condition, minimize your symptoms, and get you on the road to recovery.

What is Diabetes?

Glucose is a molecule that’s essential to our bodies. Most of our body chemistry relies on the energy that we get from the breakdown of glucose. Our diet includes complex molecules called carbohydrates. The carbohydrates are eventually broken down into glucose. With the help of the hormone insulin, the glucose is then transported into our cells via our blood. If there is any impairment in these steps, it will cause an excess of glucose in our bloodstream and result in one of these forms of diabetes:

  • Type 1 Diabetes – This form of diabetes is typically diagnosed in children. It’s caused when important insulin-producing cells in the child’s pancreas get destroyed. There’s no way to prevent type 1 diabetes.

  • Type 2 Diabetes – This type of diabetes is more common. It happens when a person’s pancreas becomes not as efficient at moving glucose to cells or producing insulin. Type 2 diabetes is typically inherited. However, lack of exercise or poor eating can cause it.

  • Gestational Diabetes – This form of diabetes occurs in individuals who are pregnant. It can sometimes result in type 2 diabetes for the pregnant woman.
