What is a USCIS Medical Examination?

A USCIS medical examination, also known as a “medical exam for immigration,” is a mandatory requirement for individuals applying for immigration benefits or those looking to become a permanent resident (green card holder) in the United States. The purpose of this examination is to ensure applicants do not have a health condition or communicable disease  that could pose a public health risk to the U.S. population.

Once your immigration medical exam is performed by one of our certified doctors, the results are then relayed to USCIS through form i-693 and you are informed of any serious medical concerns revealed in the test. In some cases, you may be asked to complete a return visit if test results are inconclusive or further testing is mandated.

The medical examination process typically includes a review of your medical history, a physical examination and required lab tests for communicable diseases such as TB and syphilis.

The civil surgeon or panel physician will also review your vaccination records to ensure you have received all required vaccinations.

The set of medical tests required as part of the immigration examination are extremely comprehensive. Depending on the results of your examination, additional  services may include:

  • Urine test
  • Chest X-Ray
  • TDAP Vaccine
